希伯來文聖經將所謂的十二小先知書統稱為「十二之書」， '當中包括何西亞書、約珥書、阿摩司書、俄巴底亞書、約拿書、彌迦醬、那鴻書、哈巴谷書、西番雅書、哈該書、撒迦利亞書和瑪拉基書。這「十二之書」被視為一卷書而不是十二卷書。在這方面，豪斯（Paul R. House）指出"One of the most noticeable differences between the English and Hebrew Bibles is how each counts the twelve smaller prophetic books. The English Bible considers them as twelve separate books. The Hebrew Bible, however, counts them as a single prophecy"（Paul R. House, OJd Testamenl Survey [Nashville: Broadman Press ，1992，180）; 倫德托夫（Rolf Rendtorff)也指出:「我們有證據顯示，早在主前的190年，這些較短的先知書被組合成一卷書，那十二小先知書。西拉克（Jesus Sirach）（49:10)有提及這方面（Rolf Rendtorff, The Old Testament An Introduction trans.
